What is the liturgical season of the church at this time?
Advent (Starting the Fourth Sunday before Christmas) Christmas (Dec. 25 - Jan. 5)
Advent and Christmas
This is the time of year we await the coming of Jesus. This year at The Covenant Church we are examining Luke 19, studying the life and teachings of Jesus. At first this may strike some as unusual. Since we are taking the year to walk through the Gospel of Luke, we are able to examine the Advent story through a new lens of Jesus coming into Jerusalem. Through it all we anticipate that Christ will be born anew within our hearts. The Christmas Eve Service will be the telling of the birth story of Jesus through lighting of candles. This service reminds us of how the Light of the world has broken into the darkness with a new way to walk, the King of all creation coming to establish His kingdom for all eternity where there is health, wholeness, deep love and joy. The color for Advent is purple, the color of royalty to welcome the Advent of the King. The colors for Christmas are white and gold, the colors of celebration, newness and hope. |
