Gomer Cruz-Lopez was trained by the Christian & Missionary church to serve as the local pastor in Llata. He and his wife Victoria had taken as many as five children into their home -- all they could afford. These children were typically without a father, mother or both, resulting in them begging on the streets and getting involved in unhealthy activities. About 6 years ago, pastor Cruz lost his support from the Lima, Peru church. When Rick and Maureen Pacini heard of his situation, it was clear to them God wanted them to get involved. They have provided financial support for the orphanage and have been active in garnering support from others. They are the voice of Mr. and Mrs. Cruz in the U.S. Currently, Pastor and Mrs. Cruz take care of 30 children. They have built dormitories, a kitchen, study area, dining area as well as a storefront shop. He has acquired two fields to grow grains for the orphanage. He gets some practical local help from the church and the town supplies free electricity, at least for now. Gomer is well-respected in the community. In October 2009, Gomer wrote, "Please recieve greetings from the Refuge of Grace, also from my wife and all the boys and girls, may God bless and protect you. The children of our orphanage are doing well even though occasionally they are sick from the change in climate. To this date, the drought continues, we've had no rain. For this reason, compared to prior years, planting will be delayed. The financial crisis is causing a devaluation in currency and increase in the cost of staple foods. Also the swine flu has arrived in Llata but has not effected our orphanage. There are 25 children and adolescents in our community and along with the brothers that help us, we are 30 in all. We participate in the activities of the church and there is a group that is being baptized in December of this year. My car is running well after the last repair in July. Thanks to God for you (all) and bless you." For more information about the Llata orphanage and how you can help, contact Rick Pacini at "rpacini at comcast.net." Needs Pray for Gomer & Vicki in their impoverished home & town environment. Pray they have a special love for each of the children God has provided. Pray for the physical and spiritual needs of the children to whom the Cruz famiily ministers. Pastor Cruz would eventually like to build a school for the children. |
