| Nicaragua, The Road To Ameya |
|
What are we doing in Nicaragua? As we believe God has called us to be in a reciprocal relationship with the community of Ameya, we are continuing to build this relationship. Quite a few people from our congregation have been to Nicaragua and continue to build the relationship by various projects, such as starting construction on a medical clinic in Ameya and running a VBS type of program for the children of the town. We're grateful for the assistance provided by Covenant Merge Ministries, a Covenant organization that arranges mission trips for groups like ours going on mission all around the world. The congregation has a strong heart for Ameya. They have participated in clothing drives, sports equipment shipments, etc. Many thanks to Jane Mirandette for getting these things to Ameya for FREE !! YOU can contribute to the work in Ameya simply by buying things you normally buy. Purchase gift cards for several merchants, including grocery stores, in the narthex Sunday mornings for the face value of the gift card. When you do, a percentage of the sale will go to Ameya. It's easy and it doesn't cost you more than you would usually spend. Please pray for this partnership. Specifically, pray that the hearts of the men in the village change so they are more involved in the church. If you have questions, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Second, the two organizations with which we are partnering are already active there in the type of projects we desire. Strategically, travel to Nicaragua is easy, quick and relatively inexpensive, leaving the door wide open for multiple trips. The plan is to consistently send people each year to carry on the relationship. Eventually, there is a possibility that as many as half our congregation would be able to participate. The initial team, Bob Licko, Greg Yancey, Peter Way, Bert Wright, Tom Gregory, David Everitt, and Scott Erickson, traveled to Nicaragua in October 2007. They pinpointed the village of Ameya as a partner for us. For Scott Erickson's excellent written report on the trip, click here. For a Powerpoint slide of the trip, click here.
